In Support of Piedmont's Blair Park Sports Field
The JLYSSL Board of Directors has voted unanimously to support Piedmont's Blair Park Sports Field. We understand there has been a movement of several Oakland residents to urge the Oakland City Attorney to file a lawsuit against the City of Piedmont to halt the proposal. As the representative body charged with providing Oakland communities with the best opportunities for our children to play soccer in a safe and healthy environment, JLYSSL is deeply concerned about the possibility of a lawsuit. There is a severe shortage of soccer fields in our community. The children of Oakland share fields in Piedmont and Alameda. JLYSSL has always been challenged to find sufficient field space to serve its membership. The families of Oakland need help in expanding the number of youth soccer fields in our community. We oppose lawsuits that will impede this goal. We strongly urge the City of Oakland to resist the prospect of any form of litigation against the City of Piedmont.
Fall 2011 Season: An Appreciation
The Fall 2011 season is complete for Jack London teams, and now is the time to reflect on the remarkable accomplishment of an all-volunteer league successfully bringing off nearly two thousand competitive and recreational youth soccer matches in two months' time. Special thanks goes to Don Levine, Nino Borsoni, and the match secretaries for scheduling the times and fields for our matches; William Lee and the referee coordinators for providing our referees; and Sam Hustis for directing our end-of-season tournament.

No Game-Day Scrimmages
On game days Jack London does not allow its fields to be used for scrimmages. If your official match has been called off by the referee, you may not play your opponent informally in a scrimmage or friendly.

No Dogs on JLYSSL Fields
As a reminder, dogs are not permitted at soccer games or practices. Dogs tend to get excited by all the activity, presenting a danger to the players, officials, and even the spectators. At games, referees may refuse to let the game proceed if a dog is present. Of course, service dogs are always an exception.
When games or practices are on public parks or adjacent to public areas, other people might bring dogs close by. The league has little authority here, but most dog owners are receptive to a gentle suggestion that their dog be kept away from players.
