Referee Training and Licensing Schedule
Grassroots Referee Training
First Time Grassroots Referees must complete four (4) online assignments in the US Soccer Learning Center (estimated 6-8 hours), attend an in-person field session (estimated 3 hours) and, if over the age of 18, complete an NCSI background check. The course costs $75 and requires an annual renewal each year you referee. The background check costs $30 and must be completed before the field session. Anybody can take the course, regardless of your experience. You will learn everything you need to know to start refereeing lower-level games. There are additional training opportunities once you have the license that enable you to work older and more competitive games. You should be 14 or older to take the course, although 13-year olds who will turn 14 during the season immediately following the course are eligible.
